Late last fall, artists were out in the cold installing three new cyanotypes, or sun prints, which are key features of the artistic landscape design at the community garden behind Fire Station 3, 2301 East 86th Street.

These bright blue banners were co-designed by Dakota Artist Erin Genia, above left, and Sheila Novak, above right. They share the story of the land, honoring the sun and water, and histories of the significant Minnesota River Valley, the life it supports, and its value to indigenous communities. Bloomington Creative Placemaking Director Alejandra Pelinka coordinated this project.
