Creating pathways to homeownership
The HRA offers programs that help residents navigate challenges to homeownership and prepare for buying a home:
Rental Homes for Future Homebuyers: Eligible households can rent an HRA-owned home and set aside savings for a future down payment. Learn more at blm.mn/rentalhomes.
Homebuyer Mortgage Assistance: Provides down payment assistance and required homebuyer education for income-eligible households.
Educational Opportunities: Monthly workshops help renters prepare for homeownership. The workshops are offered in English, Somali
and Spanish.
Providing support for homeowners
The HRA offers programs to help homeowners manage costs, make repairs and remain in their homes:
Energy Assistance: Federally funded grants help income-eligible households pay for heating, water and furnace repairs. Learn more at blm.mn/energyassistance.
Home Improvement Loans: Loans of up to $50,000 help homeowners make needed repairs and upgrades and are repaid when the home is sold or transferred. Learn more at blm.mn/loans.
