Did you know? City solid waste customers who sign up for an organics cart to compost their food scraps receive an annual voucher for 130 free compostable plastic bags. For most households, that’s enough bags for a year. The first voucher is mailed out within two months of signing up. New participants also receive a welcome packet with their organics cart that has helpful tips to get you started, a magnet list of accepted items and 10 compostable bags.

Since the program started in 2022, more than 28% of eligible households have signed up for curbside organics. Happy residents report that they empty their trash less often because it doesn’t smell.

The new year is a perfect time to start composting your food scraps. To learn more and sign up for organics, visit
