If you see work being done in front of or along your property line, it could be crews from local broadband providers installing fiber optics in your neighborhood. These installations are expected to continue throughout Bloomington for the next two to five years.

What are fiber optics? Thin flexible fibers of glass or plastic in a cable used to transmit light signals from one end of a cable to the other. These fibers are frequently used in fiber-optic communications, where they permit transmission over longer distances and at higher bandwidths than electrical cables.

Questions? Many residents have had questions about this work, especially around property lines, right-of-way and easements. For more information about rights-of-way or easements, contact Public Works Engineering at 952-563-4870 or engineering@BloomingtonMN.gov. This work is not being carried out by the City of Bloomington so City staff cannot direct installation crews.

Report an incident: If you have difficulty identifying the company working in your area or want to report an incident, please complete a Fiber Installation Incident Report at blm.mn/fiber.
