Bloomington’s Citywide Creative Placemaking Plan recently received the Advancing Diversity and Social Change Award from the Minnesota Chapter of the American Planning Association.
This award recognizes innovative planning efforts that strengthen communities and create lasting local impact through meaningful collaboration and engagement. Bloomington’s plan was selected for its inclusive approach to connecting people, creativity, and place, as well as its commitment to ensuring residents have a voice in shaping the future of their city.
The Citywide Creative Placemaking Plan builds on over a decade of successful creative placemaking work in Bloomington’s South Loop District and expands the transformative power of arts, culture and design across the city.
Developed in collaboration with Forecast Public Art, the plan reflects key goals of the City’s Bloomington. Tomorrow. Together. Strategic Plan, particularly the priority of building “A Connected, Welcoming Community.” The plan was shaped by extensive resident input, ensuring that Bloomington’s voices, experiences, and ideas informed its direction.
“We’re honored to receive this recognition,” said Creative Placemaking Director Alejandra Pelinka. “This plan is the result of true collaboration among residents, artists, partners, and City staff. It reflects our shared commitment to a connected, creative, and welcoming Bloomington—one that residents are proud to call home.”
