Closed Points of Dispensing (PODs)
In the event of a public health emergency, a large portion of the population may need medicine or medical supplies distributed in a short period of time. Points of Dispensing (PODs) are locations organized by public health where medication will be given to people to prevent disease in response to these public health threats. There are open and closed PODs for distribution of medication. Closed PODs are not open to the public and are unable to charge for the medication(s) they provide.
A closed POD is a location operated by a private organization that has enrolled with the City of Bloomington Public Health in order to distributes medicine or medical supplies to a specific group of people, such as that organization’s staff, staff family members, and/or clients. Being a Closed POD offers a level of safety and security to your organization.
