Signs that pop up on lawns and at street corners, often referred to as bandit signs that advertise services, jobs or purchasing houses for example, are typically not allowed under Bloomington’s City Code. If you see one, please remove it. Here’s what you need to know.
Allowed: On-site commercial signs require a City permit and must adhere to specific size and placement guidelines.
Never allowed: Placing signs on someone else's property; within 15 feet of a curb or intersection; on poles, traffic signs, trees or other natural features; and in parks or public areas.
Okay with permission: Contractor signs during active work; garage sale signs (maximum of four signs, up to seven days per year); other non-sales signs; real estate open house signs (while on-site); and election signs (46 days before elections to 10 days after) are permitted with the property owner's consent.
