Part 1: Overview of new site

While the site is under development, its full URL is https://live-cob-d9.pantheonsite.io.

The development site is protected by a login and password just to view it at all. This is mostly to keep the public from stumbling upon it and getting confused.

  • Short link: blm.mn/d9
  • User: webteam1 (just to see the site)
  • Password:   webteam1

Once you can see the site's conents, you can also log in as a web editor. Use the login link at the bottom of the page.

  • Login in to edit:
  • Password:
    • First time you log in, use the reset password link to set a password of your choosing
    • Eventually it'll be hooked up to use your morning login password. Not yet though.

On or around July 13, the BloomingtonMN.gov URL will be switched in to take the place of this development link.

Part 4: Your mission — BEFORE July 13 launch

There is a lot to do before our site will launch. Dan and I will be full steam ahead creating content, organizing, fixing items on our very long punch list.

The planned launch date is on or near July 13, so we have the blessing of about three weeks' time to get the site squared away.

Your job:

1. Visit each page in your work group's section of the website

Basic pages, events, news, all of it. See the video below for tips on chasing down all your content. Feel free to look for problems anywhere on the site!

Look for problems of all kinds: migration problems, outdated information that got migrated, design issues, and so on, and fix everything you can. Things to look for:

  • [toc]
  • [accordion], [tabs]
  • Timed callouts done as a "widget"
  • Important info entered on the old site as a custom block
  • Info that just needs updating.

If you can't fix everything, or don't have time to figure out how to fox something, alert Dan or Erik right away. The sooner the better, because we will be pretty busy from now until launch.

You can set up a 30 - 60 minute meeting with Dan and Erik to look at your pages and form a plan for how to improve them. We recommend aiming for the week of June 21 - 25 to allow time to respond, if that's feasible.

Double entering updates on OLD (current) and NEW sites

From now until launch, you can enter info on the old site and it'll stay there until launch, but not after.

And, you can enter info on the new site, but it won't be visible to the public until launch, naturally.

So if you are making updates that are important both now and after launch, you have to make them on both sites.

Part 5: Editing tasks (live site)

Let's spend a few minutes going to the live site to see how you would check the content for migration issues.

Wrap-up and Q&A

We will remain on hand until the end of the scheduled two hours to answer questions, look at specific pages with you, walk through editing tasks and so on.

If you can stay you may learn something useful.

If other tasks are pulling at your sleeve, feel free to go take care of them.

Bonus videos

It's our dream to make videos that cover questions that arise and add them to this page.

On the radar
  • How to make (blm.mn) short links on the new site
  • What's an anchor and why would you add one
  • Cloning a page
  • Adding a table of contents to the top of a page
  • Adding a sidebar navigation list (like "Planning Links") to a new page
  • Check out the preview options!

Cloning events

In the editing menu, select "Clone." You'll generate a page that looks like the image below. You don't need to change anything - just select "Clone."

Clone confirmation page

You now have a copy of the calendar entry, except for the title, which will have " - Cloned" added to the end.

  • Remove " - Cloned" from the title. Titles should be "[Commission/board name] meeting," i.e., "Human Rights Commission meeting"
  • Summary: This is what shows on the homepage and in search. You shouldn't need to change anything - just make sure it says "The [Commission/board] meeting will begin at [time] p.m."
  • Change the date and start time. If the start time has changed, update the summary as well.
  • For the text widget, you shouldn't need to update much. The following is suggested:

"[Commission/board name] meetings are usually held on the [1st, 2nd, etc.] week in [Month]. Visit the City's online agenda management system to view the agenda and minutes for this meeting as they become available."

If there is a virtual component for a meeting, please include something like the following:

When it's time to join the Webex meeting, use one of the methods listed below to connect.

Join by phone (audio only)

Call the following number and enter the meeting access code and password. A mobile phone is recommended to avoid a long-distance charge.

  • Meeting phone number: TBD
  • Meeting access code: TBD

Join by computer

To join the meeting by computer, visit the Webex webpage [insert the unique URL] and enter the meeting access code and password.

  • Meeting access code: TBD
  • Meeting password: TBD

Public hearing or legal notices

Public Hearing and Legal notices are a News content type. They will automatically be shown on blm.mn/notices if the proper category is selected.

  1. Create or clone an existing news item (cloning is probably easiest)
  2. Make sure the news type is "latest news" and the category is "Legal/Public notice"
    Screenshot showcasting #2
  3. Update/add text as necessary.
    • Be sure to update the summary
    • If copying/pasting text, please select the "paste as plain text" icon in the menu. This will prevent odd formatting and styling.

    • Although no two notices will be alike, here is a good formatting example.
