Information and instructions

DOTGOV.gov's terms of service include a request that websites using .gov domains display a "You are leaving this website" alert whenever a user clicks on an external link.

Our site is set up to display a small icon plus a pop-up warning message whenever linking to an external domain. Several domains have been "whitelisted" so they are treated as internal links even though they resolve to external domains. Regex is used to encode the list of whitelisted domains. The regex can be updated at Home » Administration » Configuration » User interface » External links

Use the exact same syntax as above, and be careful as an error can cause unrelated JS errors on the site. Send a support ticket if you need assistance!

NOTE: All subdomains are automatically included along with the parent domain.

We consider these to be internal links...

...Our own domains and subdomains

...Domains we partner with for online services

...The City's social media accounts

Notes

As currently implemented, all YouTube links are treated as internal links. That's because YouTube doesn't include account-specific info in the URLs for its videos and playlists. So we have to either (a) treat all YouTube links as external, or (b) treat all YouTube links as internal, or (c) add a new regex entry for each and every City YouTube page, playlist or video we ever want to link to. At present, the regex implements choice (b).
