In September, the Bloomington City Council approved a speed limit reduction from 30 miles per hour to 25 for local, neighborhood streets. Staff are also proposing changes for larger city streets.

All proposed speed limit changes are informed by roadway conditions, feedback received through Neighborhood Transportation Management Plan engagement, studies regarding effective speed limits and engineering best practices.

Speed limits on collector streets such as 106th Street, 102nd Street, and Xerxes Avenue are proposed for 30 miles per hour. Speed limits on arterial streets, such as American Boulevard and portions of 98th Street will be set at 35 miles per hour. Both collector and arterial streets are wider than local streets and designed to accommodate slightly higher speeds.
