Help biodiversity thrive in Bloomington! Join Bloomington Parks staff and Sustainability Commission members to pull invasive garlic mustard plants along Nine Mile Creek.

Garlic mustard is a non-native, invasive plant. Because of its aggressive nature and prolific seeding, it alters ecosystems and chokes out beneficial native plants and flowers that pollinators and other wildlife depend on.  Garlic mustard often moves in after buckthorn is removed.

Volunteers will be pulling garlic mustard in an area that was cleared of buckthorn last year.

  • No experience is necessary.
  • Instructions and equipment will be provided.
  • Please bring your own work gloves and water bottle.

Orientation Session: 9:30 - 10 a.m.

  • Sustainability Commission members will provide additional information about garlic mustard, it’s impact on our native plant communities, and how best to spot and remove this invasive plant at an orientation session.
  • If you are new to pulling buckthorn, this session will be very helpful.

Garlic Mustard Pull: 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.

  • Meet in the parking lot at Harrison Park, 1701 W 100th Street.
  • The pull will take place 1/4 mile south of the parking lot along a paved trail.
