Tree removal today, a thriving creek tomorrow

As part of the Nine Mile Creek Corridor Renewal Project, tree removal will take place late winter through early spring to prepare the area for upcoming infrastructure and park improvements. About 80 or 90 individual trees and five acres of land clearing are planned. All work will be completed by April 15 to comply with environmental regulations that protect the endangered long-eared bat.

The removals will provide access and space for construction tied to key project elements, including ADA-compliant trail access from Moir Park, 10320 Morgan Ave. S., parking lot improvements and Veterans Memorial at Harrison Park at 1701 W. 100th St., creek re-meandering, bridge replacements and trail enhancements. This work also supports long-term streambank improvements and safer, more accessible recreation.

Native grasses and flowers will be planted as part of the project to reduce erosion, improve water quality and enhance wildlife habitat. Some trees will be reused for streambank stabilization and erosion repair. Trails are expected to remain open during this phase, though visitors should be alert to crews and equipment
