The City of Bloomington Office of Creative Placemaking has commissioned a mural by international artist Mariela Ajras to be installed on the exterior wall of Fenley Apartment, next to the entrance to Backstory Coffee.
About the Artist
Mariela Ajras is an Argentine visual artist and muralist whose artwork frequently explores themes of femininity, memory, and identity. She has painted murals in cities across Latin America, Europe, and the U.S., including a striking “Motherhood and Migration” triptych in Saint Paul.

This mural blends dreamlike imagery with realistic botanical detail to capture a quiet moment of transformation. A woman steps into night beside a blooming evening primrose, a Minnesota wildflower that opens only at dusk. The contrast of soft human form and structured plant reflects themes of change, reflection, and connection to place, inviting viewers to pause and sense the shift between day and night.
