Each year, approximately 50 infants in Minnesota tragically lose their lives due to unsafe sleep environments – many of which can be prevented.
During November’s Infant Safe Sleep Week, Bloomington Public Health is raising awareness about the importance of creating safe sleep spaces for babies.
Remember the ABCs of safe sleep: babies should sleep Alone on their Backs, and in a Crib. More tips:
Use a firm and flat crib mattress with a fitted sheet.
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that you room share with your baby for the first six months.
Share a room, not a bed, and return your baby to their own sleep space after nursing or soothing them.
Keep soft objects out of your baby’s sleep space. A bare crib is best: no pillows, toys, blankets, or other loose bedding.
