Summer classes offered by the police department

This summer the Bloomington Police Department will be holding a variety of educational classes for the community. Classes will be on Tuesday evenings from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Registration is required and class size is limited. Registration for each class can be found in the links below. All participants must have a signed waiver on file before attending any class.

Personal Protection for Seniors and Women

July 9, August 13 

Personal safety and protection education helps one stay safe. This course makes use of visual aids, videos, and photos to foster discussion and facilitate audience participation. This class is limited to 20 participants.

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles/Drones for 14-21 year olds

July 16

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to fly a small UAV/drone? In this course you will learn about how the BPD utilizes drones for things like search and rescue, accident reconstruction and much more. This is a hands on course where you can fly a drone. This class will begin in a classroom setting before moving outside for additional hands on instruction. Dress for the weather. This class is limited to 20 participants.

Unconscious Bias (open to all)

July 23

Unconscious Bias can be attitudes, stereotypes, or opinions we possess and can affect our understanding, actions and decisions. Being aware of hidden biases increases our awareness of the way they can influence decision-making. This class is limited to 30 participants.

Crime Scene Investigation for 14-21 year olds

July 30

Crime Scene Investigators play a vital role in collecting evidence, assisting with identifying a suspect and successfully prosecuting the suspect. This hands on course will give you an opportunity to identify and collect fingerprints and DNA collection. This class is limited to 20 participants.
