In late October at the annual Community Builder Celebration, Police Chief Booker T. Hodges was recognized with the 2023 William H. Spurgeon Award.

Selected by Northern Star Scouting and the Community Builder Celebration Committee, Chief Hodges was recognized for his outstanding leadership as a volunteer in community-based organizations and role model for youth as well as demonstrating excellence in his career field.

“I am humbled by this award,” Chief Hodges said. “I always tell my officers never miss an opportunity to interact with youth. They are our future.”

William H. Spurgeon III is credited with developing the coeducational Career Exploring program. Since its inception in 1980, the Spurgeon Award has recognized those who demonstrate ongoing, long-term concern for the community and welfare of children and youth.
