Deputy Chief Ben Calhoun

After 25 years with the Bloomington Police Department, Deputy Chief Ben Calhoun has built a career around serving the community, embracing new challenges and staying connected to the people around him.

Calhoun recently stepped into his role as deputy chief, overseeing the Support Services Bureau, Investigations Bureau and Administrative Commander. During his BPD career, he has served as a patrol officer, patrol sergeant, investigations sergeant and commander in several roles. He also spent 14 years with the Emergency Response Unit.

“Good communication, patience and listening are essential skills for an officer,” he said. He credits his family and colleagues for supporting him throughout his career.

Calhoun holds a bachelor’s degree and completed the Northwestern Staff and Command School. He said he chose law enforcement because of his commitment to the community and the variety of opportunities the profession offers.

Away from work, Calhoun enjoys the outdoors and helps coach his daughter’s hockey team.
