A basketball hoop can turn any driveway into a neighborhood gathering spot, but before you set up for the next big game, make sure your hoop is in the right place.
The City manages public right-of-way areas, including streets, boulevards, sidewalks and other spaces used by the community. To help keep these areas safe and accessible, City Code prohibits both portable and permanent basketball hoops and poles within the public right-of-way.
Basketball poles, backboards and related equipment located in the public right-of-way can present a safety problem and are considered a public nuisance under City Code. Property owners with hoops in these areas should remove them.
Before installing a hoop, be sure it meets required setback standards and is located on private property.
