As temperatures drop, energy bills can rise. The Energy Assistance Program through the Community Action Partnership of Hennepin County may be able to help.
Eligibility is based on household size and income. For example, a family of four earning up to about $74,000 annually may qualify. Qualifying applicants may receive a grant paid directly to their utility provider, reducing their expenses. Applications for the 2026-2027 program are open through May 31, 2027. Applying early is encouraged.
Participants in the program may also be eligible for free weatherization upgrades through the Weatherization Assistance Program, provided in Hennepin County by Sustainable Resources Center. Upgrades may include insulation, air sealing and replacing appliances for energy efficiency and safety.
Depending on their utility provider, households may also qualify for Minnesota’s PowerOn and Gas Affordability Program, which can provide additional funds or discounts on monthly gas and electric bills.
