In memoriam: John Laux

Former Bloomington Police Chief John Laux passed away on August 8, 2026. As was noted in his obituary, Chief Laux dedicated his life to faith, family and service.

Former Chief Laux served in the Unites States Army Reserve; he served 26 years with the Minneapolis Police Department, including six years as Chief of Police; and continued his service as Chief of Police with the Bloomington Police Department from 2003 – 2008. He was also a member of the City’s Merit Board until his passing. He also served on the Minnesota Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Board, the International Association of Chiefs of Police, and numerous civic and nonprofit boards, including helping establish CornerHouse and serving Cornerstone, DeLaSalle High School and St. Bonaventure.

“Chief Laux was a great chief and a great person.  He will be missed. Please join the City in keeping Chief Laux and his family in your thoughts,” Bloomington Police Chief Booker Hodges said.
