In recognition of the America 250 celebration, the National Academy of Public Administration and LocalGov250 named Bloomington City Manager Zach Walker as one of the nation’s 250 Government Champions. Walker is one of three honorees from Minnesota, alongside representatives from the city of Spring Lake Park and Anoka County.
The 250 Champions initiative highlights public servants across the country who exemplify excellence, leadership and a deep commitment to serving their communities.
This year’s honorees represent a wide range of roles in local government. From a fire chief in Ithaca, New York, to a meter reader in Illinois and a sustainability coordinator in Wisconsin, each champion was nominated by a peer in public administration for going above and beyond in their work and inspiring others through their service.
“I’m honored to be included alongside so many inspiring public servants from across the United States,” said Walker. “From the founding generation to today, the work of government has always been about connecting people, communities, and opportunity. I am grateful to be part of this profession and to serve the Bloomington community alongside so many dedicated public servants across the country.”
The 250 Government Champions will be recognized at a special event ahead of the ICMA National Conference in Philadelphia on May 12.
Local Gov 250 is a national effort led by a coalition of local governments and government associations to honor and elevate the role of government as the United States approaches its 250th anniversary. Through storytelling, recognition, and innovation, the initiative highlights how public servants have shaped – and continue to shape – American democracy from the ground up.
