Naturalist Program: Beaver Moon Night Hike

As cold temperatures deepen, the Cree call the full moon the Frost Moon and the Anishinaabe call it the Freezing Moon. For the Dakota and Lakota, it’s the Deer Rutting Moon. 

In the 1760s, Captain Jonathan Carver named it the Beaver Moon because they retreated into their lodges for the winter. 

Explore the woods near Parkers Picnic Grounds and Trail Area under the Beaver Moon with naturalist Jennan and discover how the forest changes as winter approaches. 

Meet at the east side of the Parkers Picnic Grounds parking lot. 

• Some head lamps are available.
• Depending on the weather, closed shoes or snow boots are encouraged. 
• This is a free program geared towards adults and families with kids ages 10 and above. 
• No registration required.
