Illicit discharges include anything other than clean rainwater entering the storm sewer system. Common culprits include dumped car wash water, used motor oil, paint, pet waste and grass clippings. To protect our waterways, wash your car at a carwash or on your lawn, and sweep grass and leaves back onto your lawn instead of hosing them into the street, which helps prevent algae blooms.
