Title

Conversion Therapy Ban

Sections

In April 2021, the Bloomington City Council passed an ordinance making it unlawful to conduct or practice conversion therapy on a minor or vulnerable adult in the City of Bloomington. Conversion therapy is any practice, conduct, or treatment by a licensed provider that seeks to change an individual’s sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, or to reduce sexual or romantic attractions or feelings toward an individual of the same gender. The purpose of the ordinance is to protect the physical and psychological well-being of minors and vulnerable adults from exposure to the serious harms caused by conversion therapy.

If you believe that conversion therapy is being practiced, or if you or someone else has been subjected to conversion therapy, you can file a report with the Bloomington City Attorney’s Office. Reports can be made anonymously and you do not need to have personally been a victim of conversion therapy in order to file a report.
