Parks Response Team

In cooperation with Public Health, Public Works and Public Safety departments, the City of Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department has launched the new Parks Response Team (PRT). We are committed to finding ways to keep Bloomington's outdoor spaces accessible while helping to ensure the health and safety of residents.

What is the Parks Response Team?

The PRT is comprised of staff from the Parks and Recreation, Public Works and Public Safety departments. Each day, team members actively monitor use of Bloomington's parks, trails and park amenities throughout the city, and will respond to resident concerns and questions about their use on a daily basis. When they see or are made aware of activity that does not follow public health guidelines, they will engage park users in a friendly and helpful manner to inform them of the need for compliance. They will have signs, flyers and other materials to assist in educating park users about their role in keeping Bloomington’s parks open and safe.

When is the Parks Response Team available?

The PRT will monitor parks from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week until further notice, beginning on Saturday, April 4.

How can residents help?

If you see activity in your neighborhood park that you believe is not consistent with CDC guidelines for social distancing, don’t call 911. Contact the Park Response Team with your concerns and a team member will be dispatched to evaluate and address the situation. The team will do its best to respond in a timely manner, but cannot be everywhere all at once. But rest assured that even in cases where a team member arrives and the activity in question has already stopped, all complaints will be documented in detail. This information will allow us to analyze park usage trends and identify locations that may need more concentrated monitoring.

  • MESSAGE LINE:  952-563-4773 (include park name, date and time of call, description of activity)
  • EMAIL:  PRT@BloomingtonMN.gov
  • ONLINE FORM: blm.mn/park-form
  • AFTER HOURS (7 p.m. - 11 a.m.): 952-563-8811
What if park users continue to engage in non-compliant activities?

If park users refuse to comply with polite requests to follow social distancing and other guidelines, the Parks Response Team may contact the Bloomington Police Department for assistance. However, PRT members will make every effort to manage engagement with park users in a positive manner, without the need for police intervention.

We need your help.  Together, we can keep Bloomington’s parks open and safe.
