A Marriage Between Native and Missionary Families

Jeff Williamson will speak at the historic Pond House about the history of the Hopkins family, which was Dakota, and how it is connected to the Williamson missionary family through the descendants of Robert Hopkins Chaska. After the U.S.-Dakota War of 1862, he was the Christian leader at the prisons at Mankato and Davenport, Iowa.

The Pond House, located in Pond Dakota Mission Park, 401 East 104th Street, Bloomington, is open year round on Sundays from 1:30 – 4 p.m. Admission to programs and tours is free for Pond Dakota Heritage Society members and youth through high school. Suggested donation of $2 for non-member adults.
