Legal tobacco sales age

The Bloomington City Council enacted an Ordinance to increase the legal age for tobacco sales to 21 effective November 30, 2017.*

The Ordinance does the following:
  • Prohibits the sale of tobacco-related products, including electronic delivery devices, to persons under 21 years of age
  • Requires tobacco retailers to check ID of customers under 30 years of age
  • Requires tobacco retailers to train their employees on the legal requirements to sell tobacco-related products

The full ordinance is available to the public for inspection at the Bloomington City Clerk’s Office from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays. The City Clerk's office is at Civic Plaza, 1800 West Old Shakopee Road, Bloomington, MN 55431, (952) 563-8700. It is also viewable online at www.blm.mn/code.

*The Ordinance amends Chapters 5, 12, and 14, Sections 5.20, 5.21, 12.63, 12.80, and 14.435 - 14.442.02 of the Bloomington City Code. It includes miscellaneous related amendments.
