For Immediate Release - April 9, 2021

On Friday, April 9th just after 11:30am, Bloomington Police identified improper plates on a vehicle and performed a traffic stop on American Boulevard and Chicago Avenue. The driver initially fled in his car and then on foot to Dar Al Farooq Islamic Center/Success Academy, causing the mosque and school to go into lockdown. Once there, the suspect climbed onto the roof and refused to surrender. The suspect was eventually taken into custody, and the Bloomington Fire Department assisted in getting him down safely from the roof. This person has no affiliation with Dar Al Farooq or Success Academy, and there is no ongoing threat to the community.
The Bloomington Police Department would like to thank the Dar Al Farooq, Success Academy staff and the community for their cooperation and patience, which allowed us to bring this incident to a safe conclusion.
