Lights On for Crime Prevention Event

When

  • Tuesday, October 6, Dusk to Dawn

In 1984 National Night Out was first introduced through an established network of law enforcement agencies, neighborhood watch groups, civic groups, state and regional crime prevention associations. National Night Out began simply with people turning on their front porch lights and sitting in front of their homes. Fast forward to 2019 where over 16,000 communities organized National Night Out events. Unfortunately, Covid-19 has impacted National Night Out 2020 from being the amazing event it has grown into over the years.

Unique times bring unique solutions. What better time than now, to return to our roots and hold National Night Out as it first started in 1984. The Bloomington Police Department is encouraging all residents to participate in the Lights On event scheduled for Tuesday, October 6th (the date schedule for 2020 National Night Out). Residents are encouraged to light up the city with a message to criminals letting them know the community is organized and fighting back on crime. The community is encouraged to join the Lights On event by turning on your exterior lights from Dusk to Dawn on October 6th.

A flyer to share with your neighbors is attached.
