The Bloomington Fire Department was recently notified that it is a recipient of a Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The funds received through the SAFER grant will enable BFD to hire 18 full-time firefighters to better serve Bloomington and provide much-needed additional staffing for the department.

“The grant to add firefighters will allow us to improve fire response times and better meet the safety needs of the community,” Fire Chief Ulie Seal said. “The Fire Department is grateful for the support of the Mayor, the City Council and Bloomington residents.”

BFD, working with Human Resources, will start a process to hire the full-time firefighters. This process will be completed within six months or less.
