Skate School curriculum information
- Snowplow Sam program
The Snowplow Sam levels are designed to help the preschool-age skater become comfortable on the ice and to develop preliminary coordination and strength. Snowplow Sam is a big, fuzzy polar bear who loves to skate.
- Basic skills 1 - 8
This eight-level program introduces fundamental moves: forward skating, backward skating, stops, edges, crossovers, turns and Mohawks. Upon completion, skaters will be able to advance to more specialized areas of skating.
- Free skate curriculum
Each free skate level has four sections: moves in the field, spins, dance/footwork sequence and jumps. These give skaters a strong foundation on which to build their skills. Skaters are free to choose a recreational or competitive approach to figure skating.
- Therapeutic curriculum
The Therapeutic Badge Program is designed to help physically challenged skaters develop skills and enhance their skating experience.
- Dates: March 18 and 19, 2016
- Venue: Bloomington Ice Garden
Deadline for participant registration December 12, 2015
All Bloomington skate school members are invited to participate. By registering for the show, you also agree to register for skate school session 3 when registration for that session begins. If you sign up for the show and do not attend the winter and spring sessions, you will not be able to skate in the show (please contact Skate School Director, Rene, with any questions). Skaters will be placed into show groups based on their level and age at registration time.
