2017-902 Storm Sewer and Pond Maintenance Project
This project includes work at 11101 Hampshire Avenue South - Excavation and disposal of 15,000 cubic yards of pond sediments and minor storm sewer maintenance.
The pond will be excavated to remove the sediment delta and restore the flood protection and water quality functions. Pond sediment samples were collected and analyzed according to Minnesota Pollution Control Agency protocols for metals and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). Sediments exceeded the PAH levels acceptable for industrial re-use, such as fill or compost, and require disposal at a Municipal Solid Waste landfill. Pond dewatering and pumping can be expected during the project and noise will be monitored. Trucks plan to haul north on Hampshire Ave. to W. Old Shakopee Rd.
The site is in an industrial area, and is expected to have minimal impact to traffic and neighboring businesses. The neighboring business has been notified of the additional storm sewer repairs along the railroad south of W. 111th St.
Work is expected to begin in mid to late January and be substantially complete by early March, 2018. Final restoration will be complete is expected by June, 2018.
Throughout the project, updates will be provided via this website and the project updates listed below.
February 16, 2018
The contractor completed the sediment excavation and storm sewer repairs this week, ahead of schedule. The cold temperatures allowed good access around the pond and the use of extra equipment and trucks. While the cold was good for excavation, it was not so good for grading. The frozen ground prevented final restoration and seeding which is expected by late March.
February 12, 2018
The continued cold temperatures are allowing good progress on the sediment excavation and allowing favorable truck hauling operations. The haul routes (Hampshire Ave. and W. Old Shakopee Rd.) are being monitored for traffic and mud tracking issues. The project should stay on schedule for the majority of work to be complete by the end of February, with minor work and restoration to be completed by late spring.
January 26, 2018
Work began this week on repairs to storm sewer manholes and tree clearing. The contractor is working to prep the site for dewatering and excavation, which are expected to start next week. Dewatering will require pumping, which may take several days initially, and occasional use during the project. The truck haul route is Hampshire Ave., north to W. Old Shakopee Rd., west to Hwy 169, and south to Dem-Con landfill near Shakopee. Trucking is not expected to impact normal traffic along the haul route. Excavation is anticipated to be complete by late February, but the work schedule may vary depending on temperatures and snow. The recent warm weather and snow should not significantly affect the schedule.
