For support in planning the next Bloomington Pride Celebration on September 10, Bloomington Pride has turned to a non-profit, Twin Cities Pride, that organizes the long-running, annual Twin Cities Pride Festival at Loring Park and parade in Minneapolis in June.
Bloomington Pride, a group of Bloomington volunteers, is working with event facilitators, Twin Cities Pride to earning their 501(c)(3) status. Twin Cities Pride took over planning the Bloomington Pride Celebration this year from the City of Bloomington, which previously planned the event. Organizers believe it was an important step to ensure the support to grow the festival in the years to come.
"The new partnership allows residents to continue to be the leading voices in local Pride event planning and allows Bloomington Pride to strengthen this important community-centered event," said Jamie Verbrugge, Bloomington City manager. "It speaks directly to our strategic plan, Bloomington. Tomorrow. Together., which supports efforts to strengthen a well-connected, diverse, and welcoming community."
The Bloomington Pride Celebration is set for Sunday, September 10, from 12 - 5 p.m., at Bloomington Civic Plaza, 1800 West Old Shakopee Road. Attendees will find live entertainment, food trucks, music and a variety of variety of vendors.
"We've been planning and hosting our annual Pride festival for decades," said Andi Otto, Executive Director of Twin Cities Pride. "We're sharing the insight we've gained over the years to help Bloomington Pride best serve the local LGBTQ community through this important event."
