Hennepin County COVID-19 hotel agreements

Hennepin County has been securing temporary agreements with hotels around the metro area to protect people experiencing homelessness from contracting COVID-19. This is a business decision between the hotels and Hennepin County. The City of Bloomington is not involved in any such arrangements within its city limits, nor does it manage resources for homeless services. Resources are provided on the county level. Hennepin County has not released the names of the hotels it is working with to protect their privacy.

People experiencing homelessness are considered to be vulnerable to coronavirus because they are more likely to have weakened immune systems and lack access to medical care. The intent of this effort to help stop the spread of COVID-19 and relieve the burden on hospitals. Hennepin County provides staffing in hotels where people are being housed.

The Bloomington Police Department has been experiencing an increased volume of calls for service from the hotels where the county has agreements in place. The Police Department is in discussions with Hennepin County on solutions for improving service.
