The curbside organics collection program began in March 2022 to help Bloomington residents divert organic materials from the City’s waste stream. Since its launch, more than 25% of eligible households have signed up. This is comparable with other communities’ first-year sign up for curbside organics collection.
Taking organic materials out of the waste stream turns these materials into a nutrient-rich compost for many uses. It also aids the efficient operation of the Hennepin Energy Recovery Center, where the rest of Bloomington’s garbage is taken and burned
Though the first-year participation goal was reached, all eligible households are encouraged to participate. For more information, or to sign-up and arrange a cart, visit blm.mn/organics.
