Process to fill vacancy for unexpired term begins

The Bloomington City Council will have a vacancy for one of its at-large council seats. Current at-large councilmember Nathan Coulter will resign from his position on the city council on January 2, 2023, after being elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives.

Residents may apply for appointment to the open seat. To be considered, an applicant must be a Bloomington resident. Councilmembers are paid $12,396 annually for the part-time position.

Candidates must submit a cover letter, resume, and completed application at blm.mn/council-app.

The deadline for receipt of applications is December 22, 2022, 4 p.m.

The City Council will conduct interviews after reviewing applications. An appointment is expected by late January 2023. The person appointed to the open seat will fill Coulter’s unexpired term until the next regular municipal election on November 7, 2023. The result of the election will determine who will fill the remainder of the term, which expires January 5, 2026.
