With three degrees, including a master’s degree in the arts, and a decade-long career as a college music professor, Ian Brekke is well-suited for his new role as manager of the Bloomington Center for the Arts (BCA). He now leads all BCA operations, including hosting a broad range of arts events, community functions, outreach opportunities, City meetings and private rentals.

“I am so honored to serve in this position,” Brekke said. “Pivoting from a career in education, this role allows me to continue serving the arts in a new and exciting way.”

Recently returning to his home state of Minnesota from California, Brekke hopes to make the BCA “the cultural hotspot of Bloomington” and he encourages residents to attend events, visit art galleries, take classes and even host their own events at
the BCA.

“I believe there is no way to separate art and culture,” Brekke said. “The arts we feature at the BCA should reflect our community.”
