The Community Development Department is excited to announce that its offices will be undergoing a remodel/renovation this winter. What began as a question of why a female supervisor had not been provided an office like her male counterpart, turned into a broader discussion of better utilization of the space and how this could be achieved while providing workplace equity. It has been a two-year journey to get to this point and we are looking forward to taking this step together. In addition, updated workstations, furniture and additional conference rooms will improve staff teamwork and facilitate the interdepartmental collaboration needed to address City concerns moving into the 21st century. The added installation of cabling, electrical work and technology inputs will further support Department work and resident services.
This remodel will launch on December 11, 2023, and staff will begin to move back into the space on February 5, 2024. This will not affect operations at other City Departments. Furthermore, the Community Development Department will continue to function normally, although most staff will be working off site and virtually as the workspace will be under construction. To reduce foot traffic on site, we encourage residents to reach out via phone/email or set up virtual meetings for any inquiries during this time period.
The Community Development Department is comprised of the Assessing Division, Building and Inspection Division, Environmental Health Division, Housing and Redevelopment Authority (HRA), Planning Division and the Port Authority.
